Celebrating International Women's Day, 8th March

8th March 2025

Every year, on March 8th across the world, we celebrate International Women's Day. This is a day dedicated to recognising the achievements, struggles, and resilience of women.

In 2022, Venetia House opened its doors, providing a place of safety and support to women in our community who are experiencing homelessness. Since its opening, Venetia House has supported 52 women with accommodation.

Homelessness disproportionately affects women. For many women, the path to homelessness is linked with abuse and trauma. Staff working at Shelter understand that the causes of women experiencing homelessness are complex and multi-faceted.

Without a place of safety and support, women face even greater vulnerabilities. Venetia House provides more than just a roof, offering a person-centred approach to a women’s pathway to independent living in the community.

We would like to take this opportunity to highlight the importance of continuing support and investment for women experiencing homelessness.

We extend our grateful thanks to our supporters, including our donors. With their support, we are able to develop our services, providing a way forward for women and in turn, breaking the cycle of homelessness.
